What is web hosting?
Web hosting is the service that allows your business to have a website. Once you sign up for a web hosting plan we will allocate you space on our web servers to store html files, cgi scripts, and other website related files. Our web servers are connected to the internet and make your site available on the world wide web via your domain name. Other features included with web hosting plans are email facilities, MySQL databases, php and cgi scripting.



What is disk space?
It is the amount of storage space you can use on our servers to hold all (webpages, images and scripts) files associated with your website. It means the amount of space that the files would take up on your computer's Hard Drive.



How much disk space do I need for my website?
Our experience is that most business websites only need between 10MB-20MB to store all of their files. That is why Hosting Buzz's introductory account the "MEGA plan" with 200MB diskspace is more than sufficient for 98% of small to medium sized businesses.



What is data transfer and how is it calculated?
Data transfer is the volume of information that is transferred to or from your website. Every time a visitor looks at your website data is transferred.

Each month data transfer for your web hosting account is calculated on the total of all inbound and outbound data from web traffic, FTP transfer, email.



How much data transfer do I need for my website?
Our introductory web hosting account the "MEGA plan" comes with an extremely generous 2GB/month bandwidth limit. Thereafter any additional bandwidth is charged at $1.10 per 100 MB overage. To put into perspective an average small to medium business website would support up to 10,000 different people looking at their website every month and still not exceed 2GB of data transfer!



What type of servers will my site be hosted on?
Our servers are state of the art Intel Dual XEON 2.4GHz with Hyperthreading, 2x512KB cache, 2.0GB ECC RAM, 2x80GB 7200rpm drives and Hardened secure Kernel.



Is the network provided by Hosting Buzz fast and reliable?
Very! Our connections to multiple backbone providers, and peering with many carriers on a regional and international basis, allows us to easily reach remote networks even in the case where a NAP may be unhealthy, or when a specific backbone connection is down. It also allows us to make intelligent routing decisions; for example, if we are trying to reach a remote network which is on the Sprint network, there's no reason to send it out to UUNET first. By placing our core nodes at places like Equinix and Telehouse, we are guaranteed a level of competent service. All of our core nodes employ SONET networks, which essentially provides a dual-redundant, counter-rotating ring technology, and in the event of a fiber cut, the SONET will automatically heal itself. We also divide our circuits among several telecommunications providers, such as Verizon, MFS/Worldcom, and Adelphia.



What kind of up-time do your servers have?

How is my website monitored?
Hosting Buzz maintains internal and external monitoring systems for every server. The servers are checked every 5 minutes via network monitoring software. Hosting Buzz monitors uptime as well as individual features and services running on each server. Hosting Buzz staff is notified via alarms, email, screen popups, and paging, if a problem occurs.



What operating system do your servers use?
Our servers run on Linux.



How long does it take to setup a new web hosting account?
Orders for new hosting accounts received during office hours (8am - 6pm) will be setup within 1 hour. Orders received outside office hours will be processed on the same day or on the following business day.



Will my server have a web-based control panel?
Yes! You will have access to our amazing feature packed web control panel interface. You can take charge of everything to do with your website with this feature.



Which hosting account should I choose?
All hosting accounts include the same set of tools and features to build your website. You should choose the hosting account size based on the size of your website. If you are unsure its best to start with the 'Mini Plan' as you can always upgrade at a later date.

What do I need, to use Hosting Buzz's web hosting services?
If you are viewing this page, then you have all that is required to take advantage of our hosting services - a computer with an Internet connection (*note that Hosting Buzz does not provide end-user dial-up or broadband connectivity), some basic software for creating a website (HTML Editor) and for transferring it onto our web servers (FTP). You will of course also need a domain name of your own in order to make full use of our web hosting facilities, so that your website can be found by Internet browsers and email be sent/received at your chosen address. Hosting Buzz offers its clients a reliable and cost effective registration service. In terms of designing your website, whilst we do not offer design services in-house, there are many third party software products that can help automate the design of websites such as Dreamweaver, Frontpage and GoLive, all of which can be employed in conjunction with our web hosting offering. Alternatively, you should employ the services of a web developer/designer.



Does Hosting Buzz support Microsoft FrontPage?
Hosting Buzz will install the necessary extensions for you to use FrontPage and is happy to answer your questions related to the use of these extensions within the bounds of your web hosting account. FrontPage extensions are needed to enable you to publish your site with FrontPage, and to run the tools supported by FrontPage: WebBots, ToDo Lists and the FrontPage/Explorer interface.

Please note that Hosting Buzz does not support problems and questions directly related to the use of FrontPage itself. Instead, we will direct you to Microsoft's FrontPage Technical Support. Hosting Buzz currently supports version 2002, 2000 and 98 of FrontPage.



Are any e-commerce solutions included or available?
Yes. Each web hosting plan come with 4 shopping carts. More information about Hosting Buzz's e-commerce solutions please visit . Customers may also add any third party shopping cart solution of their choosing that works on our servers.



I already have a domain name, can I still host with you?
Yes. Once you've ordered the hosting package of your choice we will contact you and let you know what DNS modifications need to be completed at your domain registrar so that it is pointing to our servers.



Do I have access to update my site 24 hours a day?
Absolutely. Whether you're a day person or a night owl, your site is available for you to update.



Do Hosting Buzz place limits on the material that can be hosted?
We do not allow illegal material to be hosted on our servers. Any material found to be illegal will immediately be reported to the authorities. We also forbid our servers to be used to send bulk email or SPAM email. Please read our Acceptable Use Policy for more information.



What services don't you support?
We do not support the following services:

- Streaming Audio or Video
- JSP
- Java Serverlets
- Active Server Pages (ASP)
- Microsoft Access Databases
- Telnet or SSH access.



Are there any scripts that are banned from use at Hosting Buzz?
The following scripts are banned due to these scripts causing harm to other sites on the same server. If we find banned scripts active in your account, we will disable or remove the offending script and send you an email notifying you of our actions.

Can I upgrade to a larger account?
Yes! At any time you can upgrade your site to a larger hosting account. The price you pay for the upgrade will be the difference between the two packages, pro-rated so that you only pay extra for the time left in your contracted year.



Are banner ads placed on my site?
No. Hosting Buzz will not place any type of advertisement on your site.



Can I securely accept credit card information through my website?
All Hosting Buzz web hosting plans include the ability to install a unique SSL (Secure Socket Layer at 128bit encryption) certificate. This will allow users of your site to submit credit card or other information with confidence, knowing that it is being transmitted safely and securely through the Internet. Can I access my web address with or without the "www"?
Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example: [http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer.



What type of support do you offer? Average Response Time?
Hosting Buzz offers support to our customers 24/7/365 via web based ticket system, and email. We strive for response times of no more than a few hours. Response times of just a few minutes are quite common during normal business hours. Hosting Buzz has recently implemented a web based support ticket system, which integrates all incoming support email into it. The ticket system tracks support inquires by "time waiting" for reponse from the support dept. The Hosting Buzz administration carefully monitors that the Hosting Buzz support staff maintains a fast response time, with courteous and helpful service.



Are there any hidden costs?
No. All costs are stated plainly on our website. We do not hide fees in fine print, or in our terms of service pages. The only costs that are commonly found to occur beyond your expected flat monthly rates per service, are those due to increased disk space or bandwidth usage. Pricing for such is plainly stated on our website. Hosting Buzz very often will allow you to upgrade your packages to the next size up, should you see an increase in disk space levels or bandwidth usage for the current month, and not want to pay for such additional usage. Disk space usage and availability, as well as estimated bandwidth usage, is available to you in the majority of the control panel versions included with the hosting packages.



Why doesn't Hosting Buzz offer "Unlimited Bandwidth and Disk Space"?
The idea of ?unlimited bandwidth? or ?unlimited disk space? is impossible ?disk space and connection speeds are finite, therefore ?unlimited resources? is an impossible concept. If you check closely in their Terms of Service, you'll soon see exactly how much their "Unlimited" really means. If you see a web host promising to deliver you then they are deceiving you.



How do I delegate a domain name to Hosting Buzz?
If you already have a registered domain name, it's easy to transfer it to Hosting Buzz and use it with one of our hosting plans.

The process of transferring a domain is called delegation. Delegation involves modifying the domain name servers (DNS) your domain name points to and then waiting 12 to 36 hours while the change propagates through Australian and international DNS.

If you wish to manage the delegation of your domain, you need to log in to your domain's registrar and modify the DNS to point to the name servers provided by Hosting Buzz via email with your account information.

If you would prefer Hosting Buzz to manage delegation, you will need to provide us with your username and password for your domain's registrar.



How can I avoid downtime while I wait for the new dns propagate?
While waiting for the new nameserver information to propagate throughout the Internet, we recommend maintaining your site at your current host to avoid down time for your web site and email services.

During this time, you can use the IP address as your temporary URL to begin publishing your web site while you wait for the propagation period to complete.
